The project was to design a ferry dock on Madoogali Island in the Maldives. The site is tropical and just north of the equator, with the sun directly overhead all year round.

Seasons are divided into "Wet" and "Dry". During the "Wet" season, the monsoon comes from the southwest, and during the "Dry" season, the monsoon comes from the northeast.

My design intent was to provide shade and evoke nautical forms, but also to mark the passing of the seasons. Part of the the dock is anchored, but the other is allowed to pivot with the changing direction of the winds.
